PRC releases December 2012 Dental Technologist Board Exam Results (Written and Practical)

PRC and Board of Dentistry release results of December 2012 Dental Technologist (Dental Tech) board examinations given in Manila last December 2012 in six working days after the last day of exam. PRC announces that 15 out of 26 passed the Dental Technologist Licensure Examination.

Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) administered written exam last December 18, 2012 and practical exam on December 19-20, 2012.

The Board of Dentistry who gave examinations are: Steve Mark G. Gan, Chairman; Melinda L. Garcia, Gloria M. Bumanlag and Rannier F. Reyes, Members.

Registration for the issuance of Professional Identification Card (ID) and Certificate of Registration will be on January 8, 2013. Those who will register are required to bring the following: duly accomplished Oath Form or Panunumpa ng Propesyonal, current Community Tax Certificate (cedula), 2 pieces passport size picture (colored with white background and complete name tag), 1 piece 1” x 1” picture (colored with white background and complete name tag), 2 sets of metered documentary stamps and 1 short brown envelope with name and profession and to pay the Initial Registration Fee of P450 and Annual Registration Fee of P420 for 2013-2016. Successful examinees should personally register and sign in the Roster of Registered Professionals.

The date and venue for the oathtaking ceremony of the new successful examinees in the said examination WILL BE ANNOUNCED LATER, PRC said.

Definition of the Practice of Dentistry (according to PRC):
A person shall be regarded as engaged in the practice of dentistry or rendering dental service, within the meaning and intent of this Act, who shall, for a fee, salary, compensation, or any form of reward, paid to him or through another, or even without such compensation or reward, perform any operation or part of an operation, upon the human mouth, jaws, teeth, and surrounding tissues; prescribe drugs or medicines for the treatment of oral diseases and lesions; or correct malpositions of the teeth: Provided, however, That this provision shall not apply to artisans or technicians engaged in the mechanical construction of artificial dentures or fixtures and other oral devices, as long as none of such procedures is done inside the mouth of the patient; nor shall this provision apply to students of dentistry undergoing practical training in a legally constituted dental school or college under the direction or supervision of a member of the faculty who is duly licensed to practice dentistry in the Philippines; or to registered dental hygienists serving as dentists’ assistants who may be allowed to perform oral prophylaxis and such other procedures which the law regulating the practice of dental hygienists may permit.

Dental Technologist has a great role of communicating with the dentist for the prescriptions, drawings and measurements taken from the patient.

Republic Act No. 9484 regulates the practice of Dental Technologist in the Philippines.
